17 Physicians Arrested So Far in Florida Pill Mill Crackdown

Under the state's new anti-pill mill law, Florida drug enforcement officials have arrested 937 people, including 17 physicians, for related crimes, according to a Miami Herald report.

The state health department also began shortening the process for disciplining physicians, reducing the typical time between an arrest and a licensing action from 134 to 19 days.

These approaches seem to be working. The state recently announced a 17 percent drop in purchases of oxycodone by medical practitioners and pharmacies from January to May.
