Legitimate Pain Physicians: Florida Crackdown Will Raise Their Reputations

Legitimate pain physicians in Florida are hoping the state's crackdown on pill mills doling out painkillers will improve their reputation, according to a report by the Tampa Tribune.

"There's a stigma," said Douglas Constant, a pain management physician in Tampa. "When you introduce yourself as a pain physician, it brings about a pejorative reaction."

Several new Florida laws establish standards of care for physicians prescribing narcotic-grade pills, require them to register with the state and increase penalties against physicians who overprescribe.
