The Joint Commission has announced it has released the third in a series of animated videos to encourage patients to become active participants in their healthcare, with the latest 60-second video focusing on medication management.
The "Speak Up" videos are intended as public service announcements and are available for viewing at The Joint Commission's YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/user/TheJointCommission. The messages of the medication management video include being able to read prescriptions, following medication instructions and confirming correct prescriptions, according to a news release.

The first video focused on encouraging patients to feel comfortable speaking up about their healthcare whether in a doctor's office or at the hospital. The second video focused on speaking up about infection control.
In addition to the videos, the Speak Up program, which launched in 2002, offers brochures, posters and buttons on a variety of patient safety topics.
