Joint Commission Releases Consumer-Focused Animated Patient Safety Videos

The Joint Commission has announced it has released the first in a series of animated videos to encourage patients to become active participants in their healthcare to celebrate National Patient Safety Awareness Week.

The "Speak Up" videos are intended as public service announcements and are available for viewing at The Joint Commission's YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/user/TheJointCommission. In the videos, characters encounter everyday situations where they have to "speak up" and a parallel is drawn between these instances and patients speaking up about their care in a doctor's office or hospital, according to a news release.

In addition to the videos, the Speak Up program, which launched in 2002, offers brochures, posters and buttons on a variety of patient safety topics.

National Patient Safety Awareness Week goes from March 6-12.
