Texas Family Practitioner Pleads Guilty to Healthcare Fraud Charges

A family practitioner from Lufkin, Texas, has pleaded guilty to healthcare fraud charges, according to a KTRE news report.

Alexander Orlov, DO, who owns a Lufkin medical practice and urgent care clinic, admitted to conspiring with an employee to submit claims for services to Medicare and Medicaid that were fraudulently rendered to patients. The employee, Haseeb Rehman, was hired to run the urgent care clinic, where he treated patients, prescribed medication, performed minor surgical procedures without a medical license and then billed Medicare and Medicaid for his services, according to the report.

Consequently, Dr. Orlov pocketed more than $725,000 from Medicare and Medicaid. He is likely to face 30-37 months in prison and has already agreed to pay $518,000 in fines and restitution. Mr. Rehman's case has yet to be resolved, according to the report.
