Michigan Dermatologist Guilty of Healthcare Fraud Has Sentence Shortened

A Grand Rapids, Mich., dermatologist, who was found guilty of healthcare fraud by performing medically unnecessary procedures on patients and re-using medical equipment, had six months removed from his 126-month prison sentence in federal court, according to a local FOX news report.

Robert Stokes', DO, attorney said the sentence is unfair, citing Dr. Stokes' personal health problems as reason for an early release. Dr. Stokes was found guilty of the charges in 2007, according to the report. He will now serve 10 years in prison.
