Dermatologist claims Michigan physician owes him $142K in wages

A Washington, D.C., physician is suing David Stockman, MD, and Saginaw Township-based Michigan Health Clinic, alleging failure to pay $142,000 in wages, M Live reported July 12.

Kishore Jayakumar, MD, filed his lawsuit June 24 alleging Dr. Stockman hired him in November 2023 to provide virtual dermatological services from his office in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Jayakumar alleges that from November through January, his work earned him $31,587. In February, Dr. Stockman paid him $10,500 but has made no additional payments since despite him continuing to perform services and earn wages.

In April, Dr. Stockman allegedly told Dr. Jayakumar that he should be "caught up" soon, but the wages did not catch up, and by June, Dr. Jayakumar was allegedly owed an estimated $142,369.20, according to the report.

The lawsuit contains one count of failure to pay wages. Dr. Jayakumar is asking for triple the amount of what he’s owed in unpaid wages, reasonable attorney fees and interest.

According to the report, Dr. Jayakumar is one of several Dr. Stockman's employees who have alleged they have not been paid for work. Forensic pathologist Donald Higgs, MD, filed a report with the police in May alleging Dr. Stockman had paid him with bounced checks, which has been sent to the Michigan Attorney General’s Office for review.

At least four other lawsuits against Dr. Stockman and his various entities are pending in the circuit courts of Saginaw and Genesee counties, according to the report.
