A new study found repeat glycerol rhizotomy procedures produced better and more prolonged pain relief for patients with trigeminal neuralgia, according to findings presented at the 2011 meeting of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
In a retrospective study, researchers found 74.5 percent of patients undergoing a second GR experienced excellent pain relief compared with 65 percent for the first GR. Pain relief lasted an average of 805 days after a second GR compared with 579 days for the first GR.
