Multimodal Analgesic Regimen Before Surgery Effective but not Common Practice

A survey found that even though the American Society of Anesthesiologists and other medical societies recommend multimodal analgesic regimen before surgery, it is only used in one-quarter of cases, according to a news release.

Researchers from Thomas Jefferson University conducted a 15-question survey of 83 providers and found the most commonly used pain treatment was opioids. Three-quarters used only two agents of pain relief when three or more has been found most effective, the study said.
