Oxycontin, which usually costs $20-$40 per pill, is one of the most abused drugs among celebrities, according to a Fox News report.
Michael Jackson was heavily addicted to Oxycontin before he died and the drug, which goes by the generic name oxycodone, was one of several medications prescribed to Heath Ledger before his fatal overdose. In 2003, Courtney Love suffered an Oxycontin overdose and radio personality Rush Limbaugh sought professional help for his Oxycontin addiction.
Some patients get hooked when they are routinely prescribed the drug for pain after a skiing accident or a dental extraction. Initial users typically report feelings of invincibility and increased energy and then sometimes develop a tolerance that requires larger, more deadly doses.
