A new survey shows increasing numbers of hospitals are offering alternative treatments like acupuncture and massage therapy, usually to treat pain, according to a Los Angeles Times report.
The survey –– by Health Forum, affiliated with the American Hospital Association, and the non-profit Samueli Institute –– found 42 percent of surveyed hospitals offered one or more alternative therapies, up from 37 percent in a previous survey conducted in 2007.
Of hospitals offering alterative care in the new survey, 65 percent said they were using this care to address pain management –– in particular, massage therapy to help alleviate pain and stress in cancer patients.
