Acupuncture was more effective than the drug flunarizine in decreasing days of migraine attacks, according to a report in the journal Pain.
However, the study found no significant differences between acupuncture and flunarizine, a calcium channel blocker, in reduction of pain intensity and improvement of the quality of life.
Researchers at outpatient acupuncture clinics at five hospitals in China evaluated the effectiveness of acupuncture in a double-dummy, single-blinded, randomized controlled clinical trial.
