The American Pain Foundation has launched an outreach campaign to help educate Hispanic-Americans about chronic pain, according to a press release from the foundation.
The campaign, Explain Your Pain, encompasses the 50 million Hispanics living in the United States, the largest growing ethnic group in the country.
Hispanics have less access to pain management and are further burdened by language barriers and cultural beliefs about pain. In one study, 80 percent of Hispanics and African-Americans with cancer pain waited until their pain severity reached the top of a 10-point scale before contacting a healthcare provider.
