Orthopedic surgeon Lawrence D. Dorr, MD, will be honored by Operation Walk, the organization he founded, Oct. 6 at the California Club in Los Angeles, Pasadena Now reported.
1. Dr. Dorr founded Operation Walk to provide free implant surgeries to patients in need in the U.S. and developing countries.
2. Operation Walk created 17 surgical teams across the U.S., Canada and Ireland, performing free surgeries for over 10,000 people in 12 countries since its inception in 1996.
3. Dr. Dorr practices at Los Angeles-based University of Southern California Keck Hospital and is a professor of clinical orthopedic surgery at Los Angeles-based Keck School of Medicine of University of Southern California.
4. Dr. Dorr is also a founding member and past president of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the largest organization of hip and knee replacement surgeons.
5. Dr. Dorr received his medical degree from the Iowa City- -based University of Iowa College of Medicine and completed an internship and his residency at Los Angeles County + University of Southern California Medical Center. He also completed a fellowship in arthritis and joint replacement at the New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery.
