Alcon has announced it has acquired Endure Medical Systems, according to a news release.
Endure Medical Systems, based in Cumming, Ga., specializes in advanced technology surgical microscopes, including LuxOR ophthalmic surgical microscopes.
"The Endure Medical Systems full-line of ophthalmic microscopes enhances our cataract surgery portfolio, offering an innovative solution for surgeons to further improve cataract surgery outcomes," said Stuart Raetzman, head of global commercial strategy for Alcon, in the release. "Cataract surgeons will appreciate the depth of perception and detail that these ophthalmic surgical microscopes with a unique illumination technology provide. … This acquisition is part of Alcon's strategy to deliver innovative technologies in eye care, to help improve ophthalmic surgery for both surgeons and patients. It expands Alcon's portfolio into the ophthalmic microscope segment of the market, and we are excited to bring the benefits of these ophthalmic microscopes to surgeons around the world."
Alcon will immediately begin marketing the LuxOR ophthalmic surgical microscopes as part of its cataract surgery portfolio in the United States, with a worldwide phased roll-out planned for 2013.
Alcon has its U.S. headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas.
