Robert Brownd, a member of the sales and development team for Surgical Notes, has enrolled at Southern Methodist University in Dallas to pursue his MBA, and his employer is covering the cost.
Under a continuing education program at Surgical Notes, a nationwide provider of medical transcription, coding, electronic medical records and other value-added IT services for ambulatory surgery centers, the company will cover the expenses of employees who enroll in an MBA or MHA program.
Mr. Brownd is the first employee to take advantage of this program, which the company started to offer a couple of years ago, Jeff Blankinship, CEO of Surgical Notes.
"Our business environment here is all based on teamwork," says Mr. Blankinship. "As the company continues to grow, we always want to bring our people up and not only give them career paths but life paths. This is an opportunity to help our employees grow with the company, increase their stock on a personal level and also in a business capacity for Surgical Notes. We always look for business executives but we also like to cultivate them."
The company also supports its staff members in IT, transcription and coding in a similar fashion. The IT team regularly takes programming classes and certification courses, and the transcriptionists and coders (who are all CPCs) are also involved in continuing education programs and training.
"As a part of their employment, they need to keep growing, not only with the industry but as part of the company as well," says Mr. Blankinship. "Our commitment is long-term with the people that work here."
