Question: What are the three biggest trends you're following today?

Daniel Weber: I think the emerging technology we've seen over the last 10 years — femtosecond cataract surgery, robotics with total joint replacement, our lab instruments keep getting smaller and smaller — that's definitely important, but we've also seen significant improvements with different softwares around patient engagement and education platforms.

But I think the area that I'm really interested in is the efficient transfer of information from one EMR to another, or one entity to another. And I see the emergence of health information exchanges as a significant improvement to communication across these entities that are unaffiliated, [and] ultimately the patients are going to benefit from [them] as their information is readily accessible from one center to the next.
