Synergy Pharmaceuticals, a developer of gastrointestinal disorder and disease drugs, has announced its appointment of gastroenterologist Gail M. Comer, MD, as chief medical officer, according to a news release.
In this new position, Dr. Comer will be responsible for guiding Synergy's clinical programs. Her appointment becomes effective May 14.
"Dr. Comer is a tremendous addition to our management team, and I am very pleased to welcome her to Synergy," said Gary S. Jacob, PhD, president and CEO of Synergy Pharmaceuticals, in the release. "Dr. Comer has an extremely strong medical and academic background, along with extensive industry experience in clinical research."
Dr. Comer is a board-certified gastroenterologist and hepatologist. She has more than 14 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, having spent seven years at Abbott Laboratories, six years at Wyeth Research and most recently serving as senior director of the biotherapeutics research unit at Pfizer.
Synergy Pharmaceuticals is based in New York.
