Study: Virtual Colonoscopy Increases Colon Cancer Screening Rates

Patients are more likely to undergo a colon cancer screening when offered a CT colonography, or virtual colonoscopy, than when offered a traditional colonoscopy, according to findings published in The Lancet Oncology journal.

Researchers found 34 percent of patients (982 of 2,920) asked to undergo a CT colonography participated, while just 22 percent (1,276 of 5,924) participated when asked to undergo a colonoscopy. However, researchers found traditional colonoscopy identified significantly more advanced neoplasia.
