A new study found participating in faecal occult blood test bowel cancer screenings reduced deaths by 27 percent, according to research presented at the National Cancer Research Institute cancer conference in Liverpool.
More than 750,000 people in Scotland were randomized into two groups: one that participated in a screening pilot and another that did not. Of the participants in the screening pilot, 60.6 percent undertook at least one screening test during the study period. Researchers found a 27 percent reduction in mortality among the pilot group.
