Lantheus Medical Imaging has announced it will receive a $300,000 grant to collaborate on the development and manufacturing of a non-invasive 3-D imaging capsule to screen for polyps and lesions associated with colorectal cancer, according to a news release.
The funding comes from a Massachusetts-Israel Innovation Partnership grant. MIIP is a collaboration between Israel and Massachusetts focused on encouraging and supporting innovation and entrepreneurship between Massachusetts' and Israel's life sciences, clean energy and technology sectors.
Lantheus, a Massachusetts-based developer, manufacturer and distributor of diagnostic imaging agents, will receive the grant upon signing a collaboration agreement with Israel-based Check-Cap to develop the capsule. Check-Cap is receiving a grant from the office of the chief scientist in Israel.
"We are pleased to have been selected to receive this important new grant that enables us to collaborate with Check-Cap on an innovative imaging product that can potentially change the way colon cancer is detected," said Don Kiepert, president and CEO of Lantheus Medical Imaging, in the release. "As a global leader in diagnostic imaging, Lantheus is dedicated to providing physicians with breakthrough tools to enhance patient care. Teaming up with Check-Cap to develop and manufacture a cutting-edge imaging capsule further advances this ongoing commitment."
Lantheus is headquartered in North Billerica, Mass.
