Glasgow University to Study Long-Term Health Effects of Weight Loss Surgery

Researchers at Glasgow University in Scotland have been given a grant from the National Institute of Health Research to study the clinical outcomes of weight loss surgery, according to a UK Press Association report.

Researchers from the university's Glasgow Cardiovascular Research Centre will analyze at least 2,000 cases over the next 10 years for post-surgery complications and obesity-related illness, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Information will be collected from the national healthcare program's clinical information system.
