Gastroenterologist Mitchell Cappell, MD, PhD, has been appointed to FDA's Gastrointestinal Drugs Advisory Committee, according to a news release.
The 11-member committee reviews and evaluates available data concerning the safety and effectiveness of marketed and investigational human drug products for use in the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases and makes appropriate recommendations to the commissioner of food and drugs.
Dr. Cappell is chief of gastroenterology for Beaumont Hospital in, Royal Oak, Mich., and professor at Oakland University-William Beaumont School of Medicine. He received his MD from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, according to his bio. Dr. Cappell then completed internal medicine residencies at Brookdale University Hospital & Medical Center and Montefiore Medical Center and a gastroenterology fellowship at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.
