The FDA's Endocrinologic and Metabolic Drugs Advisory Committee voted 20-2 to endorse approval for Vivus' weight-loss drug Qnexa, according to an NPR report.
If approved, this would be the first FDA approval for a weight loss drug since 1999. Although the FDA does not have to follow the committee's recommendation, it usually does. The drug was rejected in 2010 per concerns about side effects such as possible heart problems and birth defects.
