AGA center holds summit on CRC screening, surveillance advancements — 3 insights

The American Gastroenterological Association's Center for GI Innovation and Technology invited a series of clinical experts to explore barriers in colorectal cancer screening and surveillance in December.

Here's what you should know:

1. The center is hosting a closed meeting to discuss artificial intelligence, new endoscopic technology, the microbiome and diagnostic markers, said AGA Center for GI Innovation and Technology Chair V. Raman Muthusamy, MD.

2. The meeting is concentrating on four areas:

  • Identifying gaps in current CRC screening, surveillance and treatment practices
  • Identifying innovations that can improve CRC screening and surveillance
  • Determining what must still be done in the field
  • Defining what's needed to validate the new CRC screening modalities

3. Meeting attendees will produce recommendations and possibly several papers that will be made available in 2019.
