10 Gastroenterologists in New Positions

Here are 10 gastroenterologists who recently moved to new facilities or new positions within their organizations, according to various reports.

1. Tamir Ben-Menachem, MD – Summit Medical Group in Berkeley Heights, N.J. Dr. Ben-Menachem, an interventional gastroenterologist, joined Summit Medical Group in May. Dr. Ben-Menachem earned his MD at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Be'er Sheva, Israel. He completed an internship with St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich., and completed his residency in internal medicine at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Dr. Ben-Menachem is the author of articles and book chapters on gastrointestinal endoscopy, and his work has appeared in the Annals of Internal Medicine, American Journal of Gastroenterology and Critical Care Medicine.

2. Jeffrey Rosen, MD – Methodist Hospital ReStart Center in Merrillville, Ind. Dr. Rosen, a bariatric physician board-certified in general surgery, joined the Methodist Hospital ReStart Center in May. Dr. Rosen received his medical training at the University of Illinois in Chicago. The ReStart Center is the only designated Bariatric Surgery of Excellence by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery in northwest Indiana.

3. Mimi Lin, MD – Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation in San Francisco. Dr. Lin, board-certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine, joined SPMF in April. Dr. Lin received her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University in Bronx, N.Y. She completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at California Pacific Medical Center, where she also finished a gastroenterology fellowship. Dr. Lin's professional interests include gastrointestinal motility and esophageal diseases.

4. David Neil Roberts, MD – OU Physicians in Edmond, Okla. Dr. Roberts, a board-eligible gastroenterologist, joined OU Physicians and started seeing patients at the Edmond (Okla.) specialty clinic in April. He is board-certified in internal medicine and completed a fellowship in gastroenterology/hepatology at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, where he also earned his medical degree. At the Edmond specialty clinic, Dr. Roberts will be providing comprehensive digestive disease care, including colorectal cancer prevention.

5. Maria Livshin, MD – Cambridge Health Alliance in Massachusetts.
Dr. Livshin joined Cambridge Health Alliance in April. She currently sees patients at CHA's Cambridge and Somerville Hospital campuses. Dr. Livshin, a graduate of Boston University School of Medicine, completed her internal medicine residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston as well as a fellowship in gastroenterology at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass. She serves as an instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School.

6. Elisa Valente, MD – Cambridge Health Alliance in Massachusetts. Dr. Valente started seeing patients at the Whidden Hospital campus in Everett, Mass., in April. Dr. Valente comes to CHA from Boston Medical Center, where she completed a fellowship in gastroenterology. She graduated from Boston University School of Medicine and completed her internal medicine residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. She is an instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School.

7. Rick Zak, MD – Pagosa Springs Medical Center in Colorado. Dr. Zak, a gastroenterologist who previously worked for 28 years in private practice in Chico, Calif., joined the Pagosa Springs Medical Center in April. Dr. Zak will be involved in Colorado's statewide Colorectal Screening Program, which partners with healthcare providers to provide colorectal screening services and treatment to the underserved population for free.

8. Prabhakar Swaroop, MD – University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. Dr. Swaroop was named director of the new Crohn's and Colitis program at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in March. Dr. Swaroop serves as assistant professor of internal medicine at UT Southwestern. The new program is the only one of its kind in the Dallas area and provides comprehensive clinical care from physicians specializing in gastroenterology, colorectal surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, hematology, imaging and pediatrics.

9. Scott Hallgren, DO – Northwest Gastroenterology Specialists in Louisville, Ky. Dr. Hallgren, DO, board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology, opened Northwest Gastroenterology Specialists at the Avista Adventist Hospital's Louisville campus in April. Dr. Hallgren completed his medical education at the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery at Des Moines (Iowa) University. He also completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at William Beaumont Army Hospital in El Paso, Texas, and his residency training at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colo.

10. Lindy Rachal, MD – Hill County Memorial Hospital in Fredericksburg, Texas.
Dr. Rachal, a physician double board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology, joined the medical staff at Hill County Memorial Hospital in March. Dr. Rachal specializes in upper and lower endoscopy, reflux disease and swallowing disorders, IBD and colitis, chronic abdominal pain, IBS, gastric disease, peptic ulcers, liver and gallbladder disease.
