Editorial: Should Patient Data Reporting be Standardized?

Physicians should reach a compromise on the standardization of patient medical reports, according to a KevinMD editorial by Lucy Hornstein, MD.

Every medical document — including lab reports, X-ray reports, procedure reports, referral letters and consultant's reports — should contain the same identifying information, she wrote. Uniform spaces for the patient's vital information, including name, date of birth, physician name, location, procedure and date, would streamline the sharing of records and medical communication.
