Study: Not Enough HIT Staff to Meet Demands

A lack of trained health IT professionals leaves health insurers and providers struggling to fill those in-demand positions, according to a study reported in FierceEMR.

Every sector of healthcare industry is currently looking to hire staff to assist with electronic health record implementation and data integration, according to a new PwC informatics report, but a lack of qualified, trained professionals poses a problem. As a result, some healthcare providers have sought out partnerships with local universities to train prospective employees.

The study showed that 70 percent of health insurers and 48 percent of providers would like to increase their technical staff, while just 30 percent of insurers and 36 percent of expected to hire clinical staff.
