Ohio Governor Announces Plans to Set Up State Health Insurance Exchange

Gov. John Kasich has announced that Ohio plans to set up a state health insurance exchange, mandated under the federal health reform law, according to a WFMJ report.

The law requires states to set up exchanges by Jan. 2014 to allow small businesses and individuals to "comparison shop" for healthcare coverage. States that fail to set up their own exchanges will invite the federal government to step in and take over the implementation process.

According to the report, Gov. Kasich has said that he doesn't want "a bunch of people in Washington who can't seem to get out of their way come in here and try to run Ohio." The state has apparently received some federal money toward the exchange and will soon apply for more.
