The New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance has extended the public comment period on Proposal 163, the new personal injury protection regulations, according to Jeffrey Shanton, chair, Advocacy & Legislative Affairs Committee, NJAASC.
The extended comment period will now expire on Oct. 17.
NJAASC recently initiated a letter writing campaign requesting changes to Proposal 163 (PRN 2011-163). The letter focuses on addressing concerns that procedures routinely performed in an ambulatory surgery center are excluded from the PIP fee schedule, depriving consumers of the ability to choose ASCs, a cost-effective and efficient setting, for their treatment.
"While we applaud the extension of the comment period, we would ask that DOBI extend the period indefinitely; that is, until all of the regulations are published, specifically the pain protocols," says Mr. Shanton. "It is very difficult to comment on something when all of it is not available for review. The pain protocols will have a major impact on PIP, and we feel that judgment should be reserved until we have the ability to view the regulations as a whole."
