Researchers looked at whether or not it was necessary to stock dantrolene, a drug used to treat malignant hyperthermia, at facilities using succinylcholine alone instead of volatile anesthetics, according to Anesthesia-Analgesia.
While the study observed if succinylcholine triggered MH, their methods provided little insight. The risk of MH with versus without succinylcholine both exceeded 1.
Researchers concluded that until more epidemiologic data is collected, having dantrolene available where both succinylcholine and volatile anesthetics are administers should be continued.
