New York-based Somnia Anesthesia Services will provide anesthesiology services at Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia, Calif., starting Dec. 13, according to a Valley Voice Newspaper report.
Somnia will replace Visalia Anesthesia Medical Associates, which has served the hospital for 16 years. Somnia is owned and operated by physicians who provide clients with locally recruited teams of anesthesiologists.
The replacement has caused some controversy among hospital medical staff and the former anesthesia group. In a 12-page letter sent in mid-July, VAMA asked the Kaweah Delta Health Care District board to invalidate the request for proposal process and investigate the actions of those involved in the process.
