Retired Anesthesiologist Gifts $4M to University of Louisville School of Medicine

Geneva Matlock, MD, a retired anesthesiologist and graduate of the University of Louisville School of Medicine, has gifted her alma mater $4 million to fund research into macular degeneration, according to a Business First report.

Dr. Matlock's latest gift brings her total contributions to the university to more than $5 million in the past three years. Dr. Matlock suffers from wet macular degeneration herself and has retained her vision and driving ability through treatment.

According to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, approximately 10 million Americans suffer from the disease.
