Iowa physician banned from prescribing narcotic painkillers — 4 insights

The Iowa Board of Medicine banned Des Moines, Iowa-based anesthesiologist Daniel Baldi, MD, from prescribing any controlled substance for the treatment of chronic pain, KCCI reports.

Here's what you should know.

1. Dr. Baldi was accused of contributing to the overdose deaths of 10 patients in 2012.

2. A jury found him not guilty on all 10 counts of involuntary manslaughter.

3. After a criminal trial and several civil lawsuits, he resumed his practice in 2017.

4. As a result of the board's decision, he may never prescribe, administer or dispense controlled substances for the treatment of chronic pain.
