The American Medical Association this week announced that Joseph P. Annis, MD, will serve a sixth consecutive term on its board of trustees.
Dr. Annis practiced for 26 years as a partner with Austin Anesthesiology Group in Texas and currently serves as an adjunct associate professor of anesthesiology at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, N.H. He was first elected to the AMA board in June 2006 and served as board secretary from June 2009 to June 2010. He previously served as a Texas delegate to the AMA for 13 years and chaired the organization's council on medical service.
Dr. Annis earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and completed a rotating internship at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle. He served as a general medical officer in the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps, including one year in South Vietnam, before completing one year of surgical training at Long Beach (Calif.) Memorial Hospital and a residency in anesthesiology at the Stanford (Calif.) University Hospital.
