Having an employee who is dedicated to supply chain management is one of the most effective ways to make ASC supply chains more efficient, said Molly Ehrlich, Vizient's consulting director of advisory solutions for supply chain operations.
She shared the following supply chain tip with Becker's ASC Review:
"What is generally most efficient is having a dedicated supply chain employee managing items and orders and the many other activities that need to be performed: internal distribution of items to suites, putaway of incoming orders, supply replenishment, expiration date management, STAT and emergency supply situations - the list goes on," she said. "When done well, supplies management is nearly invisible. Not done well, supplies management can lead to extra costs and even cancelled patient cases"
