Two Florida Pharmacists Sentenced for Kickback Scheme, Submitting False Claims

Two pharmacists have been sentenced to probation for their involvement in defrauding Medicaid and Tricare, according to a report by the Tampa Tribune.

Satender Singh had been a pharmacy intern for a pharmacist in 2005. During that time, he conspired with his supervising pharmacist to pay Rajnish Mehta, another intern at a nearby pharmacy, for the names of pharmaceutical patients. Mr. Mehta was paid $100 for each customer's information, which was used to bill Tricare and Medicaid for prescriptions that never dispersed.

Mr. Singh and Mr. Mehta later created Pasco Pharmacy, from which they and their colleagues continued to submit false claims for prescriptions to Tricare and Medicaid.

Both pharmacists were ordered to pay restitution and were sentenced to probation. Officials say both defendants are likely to face deportation to India.
