Owner of Philadelphia Healthcare Facilities Allegedly Defrauded Insurer Out of $321K

John Edward McKoy, the owner of two Philadelphia healthcare facilities, has been indicted
by the U.S. Attorney's Office in connection with a scheme to defraud insurer United Health Care Corporation of more than $321,000, according to a news release from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Mr. McKoy owned and operated Mt. Pleasant Medical Management and Harris Medical Management, both in Philadelphia. From 2004 to 2007, Mr. McKoy allegedly submitted fraudulent medical bills to UHCC for services purportedly rendered to patients when no such services had been provided.  UHCC paid out $291,255 from the $321,000 in allegedly fraudulent claims that were submitted.

If convicted, Mr. McKoy faces a two-year mandatory minimum term of imprisonment, a fine of $10,750,000, three years’ supervised release, a special assessment of $4,300, forfeiture of $291,255.13 and mandatory restitution to UHCC.
