New York Physician's License Revoked for Fraudulently Obtaining a Medical License, Other Charges

An emergency room physician at Ogdensburg, N.Y.-based Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center has had his medical license revoked after being charged with fraudulently obtaining a medical license, gross negligence and incompetence, according to a Watertown Daily Times news report.

Fitzgerald A. Hudson, MD, who was hired to work in the emergency department of Claxton-Hepburn in Feb. 2008, was fired in June 2008 after a nurse reported his failure to properly evaluate a patient with chest paints and electrocardiograph changes. The New York State Health Department revoked his license in May, and a review board rejected his appeals, according to the article.

While working at Claxton-Hepburn, Dr. Hudson also reportedly failed to diagnose two cases of life-threatening illnesses and gave substandard care to seven patients, the Health Department said. The outcomes of the mistreatment remain confidential.

Additionally, reports show Dr. Hudson was dismissed from his residency training at Warren Hospital in Phillipsburg, N.J., for his inability to perform medical duties and being overwhelmed when handling multiple priorities. Dr. Hudson never disclosed being dismissed from medical training in his 2007 application for a medical license, according to the article.

In some cases, Dr. Hudson was not honest about his education on job applications to other New York hospitals, claiming he had earned a bachelor's degree from York University and had completed his medical degree in four years when, in fact, he had never earned a bachelor's degree and took nine years to earn a medical degree, according to the article.
