Indiana Otolaryngologist Admits to Filing More Than $200K in False Claims

Former Merrillville, Ind., otolaryngologist Mark Weinberger, MD, has admitted to filing more than $200,000 in false claims to health insurance companies for procedures that were never rendered, according to a Post-Tribune news report.

In the plea agreement, Dr. Weinberger could be sentenced to four years in prison if a U.S. district judge accepts it. If the judge does not accept the plea agreement, Dr. Weinberger has the option of reverting to his original plea of not guilty, according to the report.

Dr. Weinberger's sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 21.
