A former pediatrician from Decatur, Ill., has been sentenced to three years probation after pleading guilty to fraudulently billing health insurance companies for free vaccines she received from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to a Herald-Review news report.
Jamie S. Warnick, who agreed to permanently forfeit her medical license, received free vaccines from CDC that were intended for children without health insurance or whose insurance did not cover the cost of vaccines. Ms. Warnick admitted to instructing parents to falsely claim their children qualified for the free vaccines when, in fact, they did not, according to the report.
Ms. Warnick then fraudulently billed insurance companies as if she had paid for the free vaccines, ultimately receiving more than $63,000 as a result of the false claims, according to the report. Details of which insurance companies were falsely billed are not disclosed in the report.
