Houston Medical Equipment Company Owner Gets 97 Months in Prison for Medicare Fraud

The owner of Memorial Medical Supply, a Houston durable medical equipment business, has been sentenced to 97 months in prison for his role in a Medicare fraud scheme, according to a news release from the Department of Justice.

Sunny Robinson was sentenced with three other individuals convicted for their roles in his fraud scheme. Mr. Robinson was convicted of 19 counts of healthcare fraud and anti-kickback violations in March after his scheme resulted in the submission of $4.3 million worth of fraudulent claims to Medicare from 2005-2009.

In many instances, patients did not need or order the DME billed to Medicare, nor did a physician order it. Claims were also submitted for DME that wasn't ever provided or for Medicare beneficiaries that were deceased.
