Sony Previews OLED Medical Grade Monitor

Sony Electronics has announced it provided a preview of the company's new medical grade organic light-emitting diode monitor to attendees of the American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress, which took place late October, according to a news release from Sony.

The 25-inch OLED monitor, the PVM-2551MD, pending 510(k), is an improvement over LCD monitors, according to the release. Advantages of OLED technology over LCD include improved image quality, truer blacks, faster response time and a better ability to resolve colors.

"OLED technology will set a new standard for medical displays, and Sony is excited about the potential for the medical market," said George Santanello, general manager, Sony Electronics' medical systems division, in the release. "Building on Sony's legacy of display innovation and leadership, OLED is anticipated to be the new 'must have' technology and is expected to improve the viewing ability for surgeons and the medical professionals who rely on display technologies."
