Sony Set to Debut Thermal Printable Disc Drive

Sony Electronics has announced it will debut its new direct thermal printable disc drive at the upcoming Radiological Society of North America annual meeting, according to a news release from Sony.

The UPB-C 10 printable disc drive is a DVD burner with built-in direct thermal label printer. It is designed for integration into any PACS workstation or medical manufacturer system.

Features include the ability to print at any workstation, print speed of approximately 30 seconds and the ability perform both data writing and label printing in a standard 5.25-inch bay, according to the release.

"Busy imaging centers want more time to focus on their patients, so the UPB-C10 will be a welcome addition, saving them valuable time and creating accurate DVDs that they can quickly and confidently distribute," said George Santanello, general manager, Sony Electronics' medical systems division, in the release. "Sony is committed to product innovation and to leveraging our expertise in other markets in order to enable radiology departments and imaging centers to benefit from top quality products and tools to improve efficiency and quality of care."

The RSNA meeting takes place Nov. 27-Dec. 3 in Chicago.
