RF Surgical Systems, a developer of solutions for the detection and prevention of retained surgical sponges, has announced it has entered into a three-year agreement with the Premier healthcare alliance, according to an RF Surgical news release (pdf).
Under the terms of the agreement, members of the Premier alliance can purchase RF Surgical's RF Assure Detection System. The RF Assure Detection System uses radio-frequency detection to help identify and prevent potential retained surgical items (RSIs) such as a piece of gauze or sponge.
"RF Surgical's relationship with Premier is further evidence of the growing value placed on the use of adjunctive technology to avoid surgical error," said Dr. Jeffrey Port, co-founder and chairman of RF Surgical, in the release. "We are pleased to partner with Premier to make RF Assure available to a greater number of healthcare providers, continuing to work towards the goal of eliminating the incidence of RSIs in the operating room setting."
