Boston-based Mass Eye and Ear named Michael Gilmore, PhD, its first chief scientific officer.
Dr. Gilmore will assume the role May 1 and will oversee the hospital's research strategy and operations, according to an April 6 news release. He has an extensive background studying infectious diseases, and his research focuses on antibiotic-resistant bacteria and developing new treatments for eye, ear and skin infections.
Dr. Gilmore has co-authored more than 200 peer-reviewed papers and holds several patents for his research. He currently has three ongoing grants from the National Institutes of Health.
Mass Eye and Ear was founded in 1824 and is a member of the Boston-based Mass General Brigham network.
