Iowa ASC hits milestone: 100 outpatient total joint replacements

Surgeons at the West Des Moines, Iowa-based Outpatient Orthopaedic Surgery Center performed its 100th outpatient total joint procedure last week, according to the Business Record.

The total joint program was established a little under a year ago and comes 50 years after surgeons from the Des Moines Orthopedic Surgeons group performed Iowa's first total hip replacement.

“Today we are celebrating a milestone of perseverance, innovation and meticulous planning and execution,” Jan Rhiner, the ASC's administrator, told the Business Record. “We started working with DMOS doctors nearly four years ago, visiting other surgery centers performing outpatient total joint replacement, establishing protocols and training modules, determining and mitigating risk as well as purchasing equipment to make a seamless and successful transition from inpatient to outpatient.”
