Steven Goldberg, MD, a surgeon partner at Naples, Fla.-based Seaside Surgery Center, was inducted as a candidate member into the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons at their annual meeting in October. Dr. Goldberg is the first Southwest Florida-based orthopedic surgeon to receive this honor.

1. ASES membership is by invitation only. Candidate membership is awarded after the applicant has completed a fellowship with an ASES member and has been sponsored by two active members.
2. Despite its name, ASES is a global organization with 733 members from 27 countries in addition to the U.S. Only 26 members are from Florida.
3. Dr. Goldberg is a board certified orthopedic surgeon and chief of the division of orthopedic surgery at Naples, Fla.-based Physicians Regional Healthcare System. He underwent fellowship training in shoulder surgery and sports medicine at Columbia University in New York City.
4. Dr. Goldberg is the lead author on several research articles and served as team physician at Senior PGA golf tournaments in Naples. He received the Patients Choice Award from Vitals.com eight times and is consistently selected as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor.
5. Seaside Surgery Center is the only ASC in southwest Florida to offer same-day outpatient total joint replacement.
