AJL Ophthalmic Develops New Material for Bioimplants

AJL Ophthalmic, a Spain-based manufacturing company, in conjunction with Spain-based technology center IK4-CIDETEC has created a porous polythene material designed to aid in the reconstruction of the human eye, according to a Basque Research report.

The new material is capable of absorbing pharmaceutical drugs and allows the formation of blood vessels within the material's pores, which increases the chances for a successful integration of the implant.

The experimental model created by IK4-CIDETEC is at the preclinical trial stage of testing.
