California Laws Prohibiting 'One-Stop' Optician Stores Remain Intact

After a 10 year legal struggle, the Supreme Court finally turned down the Lenscrafters, Eye Care Centers of America and the National Association of Optometrists & Opticians case to dispute California laws barring optician shops that offer both prescription lenses and eye exams, according to a report by The Tribune.

The laws preserve the right of optometrists and ophthalmologists to offer both prescription lenses and eye exams, while opticians may not. The California Optometric Association and state lawyers argued in defense of the existing laws. The Supreme Court denied the plaintiff's case with no remarks.
